For you

What to expect — with no surprises

Coming to counselling can feel daunting, especially if you’ve been asked to attend. Here’s exactly how it works, so you can arrive knowing what to expect.

Your first session

1

A warm welcome

Tea or water, a private room, and no rush. We’ll explain everything first.

2

Getting to know you

A gentle conversation about what brings you here and what you’d like to work on.

3

A plan that suits you

Together we agree next steps — in person, by phone, or online.

Confidentiality & its limits

What you share stays private — with a few important exceptions we’ll always be upfront about. Because we work with probation and the courts, some information may need to be shared:

•If there’s a risk of harm to you or someone else
•Where a court or probation has directed your attendance
•To confirm you attended your appointments

Your rights

✓To be treated with dignity and without judgement
✓To ask questions and understand what’s recorded
✓To accessible support if you have additional needs

Confidentiality has limits. As we work with criminal justice agencies, some information (risk of harm, safeguarding concerns, court-directed reports) may be shared. Read more.
