What is trauma?
Trauma refers to our body and mind being overwhelmed by a distressing event. In the aftermath of a traumatic event, a person can be left with a sense of vulnerability and may feel unable to cope with their day-to-day life.
Trauma often comes with symptoms including flashbacks, insomnia, anger and severe anxiety which may lead to people shutting down mentally and detaching from others. As you dissociate from other people, you become more isolated, resulting in a dangerous cycle of the trauma going untreated.
